  • Company Description

Working at Boskalis is about creating new horizons and sustainable solutions. In a world where population growth, an increase of global trade, demand for (new) energy and climate change are driving forces, we challenge you to make your mark in finding innovative and relevant solutions for complex infrastructural and marine projects.

As Trainee you will work for Hirdes, which has been part of the Boskalis Group since 1991. As an innovative hydraulic engineering company, Hirdes is active nationally and internationally in the fields of hydraulic engineering, coastal protection, land reclamation, and ordnance clearance, both onshore and offshore. With a specialized team, state-of-the-art vessels, and comprehensive services, Hirdes employees are committed to maintaining the highest standards of safety and sustainability in every project.

For more than three decades now, under the name Boskalis Hirdes, we combine the three business divisions of Heinrich Hirdes: Dredging & Hydraulic Construction, Explosive Ordnance Disposal Offshore and Explosive Ordnance Disposal Onshore.

    Job Description

Are you ready to kickstart your career by creating innovative infrastructure and protecting coastal areas through climate adaptation? Look no further than the Dredging track of the Boskalis Traineeship in Germany!

With our extensive fleet of specialized dredgers, we are at the forefront of creating infrastructure and new land worldwide, driving economic development, and facilitating international trade. You'll have the opportunity to contribute to building new ports, maintaining crucial waterways, and expanding existing terminals.

In addition to fostering economic growth, we are committed to addressing the challenges of climate change. Through our coastal defense and riverbank protection schemes, we help protect countries and people from rising sea levels and increasingly extreme weather events. And so, you can make your mark!

    What you can expect

  • As a Trainee you get to work on various ‘one of a kind’ projects which often are the benchmark of the industry. You may be part of the tendering-, engineering- or operational phase of a dredging project.
  • Examples of projects that we have been or currently working on are land reclamation for Pasay Harbor City (Philippines) and Finger Pier 3 (Singapore). Another project example is preparing the seabed for the construction of the Yunlin offshore wind farm (Taiwan). In Germany, we are working in Cuxhaven (completion of berths 5-7) and on the Fehmarn Sound crossing, among other places.
  • Typically you would do one assignment at the Hirdes office in Hamburg or at our Headquarter in Papendrecht and do one assignment on a project location in Germany or Europe.
  • The Program
During the work assignments there is a lot of room to work on your personal development as you will work with top notch coaches and mentors. The program is packed with personal development courses, safety courses and specific track relevant courses. Together with your fellow trainees and coaches you will set personal development goals and work on them during and in between the assignments. You will build a strong international network in a short period of time. The courses take place at Boskalis' headquarters in Papendrecht, the Netherlands.

    Qualifications
You are excited to start your career within Boskalis and make your mark! Furthermore, you have:

  • A fully completed higher vocational education or university degree in civil engineering, hydraulic engineering, mechanical engineering, marine engineering, offshore & dredging engineering, land and water management, structural engineering, geotechnical engineering or industrial engineering & management.
  • Full-time availability and obtained your diploma at least before the 1st of September 2026.
  • A good command of written and spoken English and German.
  • Willingness to travel abroad for longer or shorter periods.
  • This vacancy is open for people applying from within the EU.
